Leo F. Jay, age 84, of Jay Road, Artemas, PA went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 11th, 2008 at Altoona General Hospital. Mr. Jay was born in Artemas, Bedford County, PA on January 13, 1924, son of the late Frank and A. Pearl (Tewell) Jay. He was the widower of Margaret I. (Schetrompf) Jay, whom he married in Flintstone, Maryland, on October 25, 1947 by Pastor Walter Twigg. Margaret preceded him in death on September 21, 2002. He is survived by Son- Ralph Eugene husband of Anna (Powell) Jay, Wafordsburg; Son- Gary Leo husband of Juanita (Adams) Jay, Artemas; Granddaughter- Diana (Jay) wife of Chris Kerns, Back Creek, WV; Granddaughter- Barbara (Jay) wife of Rusty Vanorsdale, Berkeley Springs, WV; Granddaughter- Darlene Jay, Phillipsburg, NJ; Granddaughter- Donna Jay, Fayetteville, PA; Great Grandson- Samuel Kerns; Sister- Adna Assel, Phoenix, AZ; Sister- Wanda wife of Robert Shipley, Cumberland, MD; Sister- Mary Katheryn wife of John Smith, Chambersburg; Brother- Allen M. husband of Helen Jay, Artemas; Brother-In-Law- Blair Schetrompf, Jr, Peabody, MA; Sister-In-Law- Mildred wife of Ronald Beddow, Berkeley Springs, WV; Sister-In-Law- Moynelle wife of Calvin Peck, Hancock, MD; Sister-In-Law- Yvonne Perry, Frederick, MD; Numerous nieces and nephews. Leo attended Lebanon Church of Artemas, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Everett Area High School, class of 1942. He served in the United States Army in World War II from 1944-1946 in the Battle on the Rhine in Frankfurt, Germany. Mr. Jay was a member of the Artemas Legion Post 155 where he held the position of Commander, treasurer, chaplain, and janitor. Leo worked at Danville Saw Mill and was also a truck driver for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He also worked at Horton's Grocery store in Everett, Pennsylvania as well Marshall Foor's Garage. Leo drove school bus for the Everett School District, and he also worked at Morral Brothers' Garage in Everett. A funeral service will be held at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc, Everett at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 15th, 2008 with Rev. M.W. Nesselrodt, Rev. Benny Brakeall, & Rev. Tom Mowry officiating. Interment at Fairview Christian Cemetery, Artemas, with graveside Military Rites Accorded by the William McKinley Smith Post # 155, Artemas. Friends are invited to call Saturday 3 - 9 PM at Jack H.
