Mrs. Mildred K. McCreary, 91, of Stoystown Road, Friedens, formerly of Central City, died at 6:30 PM, Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 at In Touch Hospice, Somerset. 

Mrs. McCreary was born in Johnstown on Tuesday, June 3, 1919, the daughter of the late Edward and Ida (Beneigh) Hinson.

On October 10, 1939, she married Emmett W. "Chub" McCreary.  He preceded her in death on September 17, 1977.

She is survived by  Daughter- Shelby Jean wife of  Ardell Horn, Schellsburg; Daughter- Karen Sue wife of  Howard Matthews, Davidsville. She is also survived by four grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.  She was the last surviving member of the nine children in her immediate family.  Mildred was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Ryan Horn; three sisters, Edna Burkhart, Florence Adams, and Verna Manges; and by five brothers, Howard, William, Lester, Edward and Chester Hinson

Mildred was a homemaker and an Avon Representative.  She was a member of the Central City United Methodist Church, where she served on the Missionary Society.  Mildred was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Central City Fire Company.  She served on the Shade Township Election Board for 30 years.  Mildred was known for operating a perpetual garage sale out of her home at Reels Corner for 22 years.  .

A Funeral Service will be held at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 31st, 2010 with Rev. Ruth Shaver officiating.

Interment at will be held at Schellsburg Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 & 6-9 PM at the funeral home.
