Sarah Wentz Smith died May 15th, 2010 at Homewood in Martinsburg, where she lived and was cared for more than eight years due to dementia. Sarah was formerly of Barclay Drive, Bedford.  She was born on Wednesday, December 2, 1925 in Napier Township, the fifth child of Lloyd & Julia (Croyle) Wentz, who are both buried in the Schellsburg Cemetery.

On February 14, 1946, she married John Miles Smith of Rainsburg in Cumberland, MD. John died on October 9, 2000 and Sarah missed him terribly. Surviving are her daughter, Jo Ann Greene and granddaughter, Susan Greene and extended family.

Sarah & John enjoyed many summers boating on the Potomac River with relatives. They also enjoyed tending a vegetable garden every summer and spending a few weeks of winter in Florida. She was a doting "Grammy" to her only grandchild, Susan and she loved her cat Blackie. Sarah was affectionately known as "Minnie Mouse" or "Pochahantas". She worked at Alwine's, Midway, the cafeteria at the Bedford Schools, Ed's Steakhouse and Sears in Bedford.

Sarah graduated from the Schellsburg Napier High School in 1943. Sarah was a member of St. John's E&R Church in Bedford and she practiced what Jesus taught by sharing what she had and giving to others.

A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Paul Claycomb officiating.

Interment at Wood Church Cemetery, Colerain Township.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
