                                                 Norman L Blackburn

Norman Leon Blackburn passed away at age 97 on September 29, 2006 after a short illness.
Norman was born October 21, 1908 at Beegleton near Rainsburg in Colerain Township. His parents were Thomas Leon and Eva

(Smith) Blackburn. His father was tragically killed at age 29 in a sawmill accident near Rainsburg when Norman was barely two years old.

He was raised by his mother living at the Beegleton farm of his grandparents, Edward McCoy and Sarah Belle (McClellan) Smith. He

attended the Harmonia (James) School near Beegleton and then graduated from Bedford High School, Class of 1924.

In his younger adult years, Norman was a member of the Methodist Protestant (Woods) Church in Rainsburg. He spent many years

away from Bedford County following a career as a communication specialist. He was an expert in radio and television technology.

Mr. Blackburn took an early interest in aviation, owned and piloted a plane which was lost in a fire on the runway at Everett shortly

after landing.

On December 9, 1929, he married Nan Annette Corle, who preceded him in death in 1972. Mr. Blackburn is survived by their two

 children, Leon Corle Blackburn and Edward Wilson Blackburn along with five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a recent

addition to the family, a great, great grandson born in January, 2006. Also surviving are Mr. Blackburn’s sister, Edith Blackburn McGinnis

and a niece.
 

Interment at Woods Church Cemetery, Rainsburg
 

Friends are invited to call Thursday from 10:00 AM - Noon at the Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM at the Woods Church in Rainsburg.
