OBITUARY September 18, 2007
Ralph D. "Bill" Calhoun
Ralph D. "Bill" Calhoun, age 95, of Bedford, PA , died at 11:45 PM , Monday,
September 17th, 2007 at Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, Blair County,
PA.
Mr. Calhoun was born in Mench, on December 22, 1911, son of the late David and
Myrtle (Hockenberry) Calhoun. He was the owner of Calhoun's Atlantic and he
retired in 1974.
Bill was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a life member of the Bedford
American Legion Post # 113, the Bedford Moose Lodge # 480, and a member of the
Bedford Masonic Lodge # 320 F & AM. Mr. Calhoun served in the U.S. Army as a Pvt
in WW II. He received the European/African/Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with
four Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct
Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
He was the widower of Dorothy C. (Johnston) Calhoun, who preceded him in death
in July 1989.
Bill is survived by Son-In-Law- Bill Kirchner, Bedford; Granddaughter- Denese
wife of James Gerner, East Stroudsburg; Granddaughter- Beth wife of James
Sellers, Bedford; Granddaughter- Jill wife of James Groff, Sellersville. He is
also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by a son William Calhoun, a daughter Mona Sue
Kirchner, brothers-Glenn & Lloyd, sisters-Velma Karns, Dorothy Huges, and
Marjorie Milburn.
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford, PA. at
11:00 AM on Saturday, September 22nd, 2007 with Rev. Thomas Eckstrand
officiating.
Interment at Bedford County Memorial Park Bedford, PA.
Friends are invited to call Friday 4 - 7 PM at Louis Geisel Funeral Home,
Bedford.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church 106 West Penn
Street Bedford, PA. 15522.
