                                 OBITUARY                    January 7, 2008

                                                  Edwin E. Duagherty

 

 

Mr. Edwin E. Daugherty, age 85, of Adams Run Road, New Paris,  died at 9:25  AM , Sunday, January 6th, 2008 at Donahoe Manor,  in Bedford.

Mr. Daugherty was born in East St. Clair Township,  on  Friday, September 8, 1922,  the son of the late Martin L. and Daisy (Wolfe) Daugherty.

Edwin served as Bedford County Prothontary and Clerk of Courts for at 12 years from 1960 to 1972.. He formerly worked at Sears - Roebuck & Company in Johnstown,  The Bedford Gazette in the advertising Department, the Warren Burr Insurance Agency and retired as a caseworker after 15 years from 1975 to 1989 from the  Department of Public Assistance Office  in Bedford, and was also an avid coin collector..

He was a  member of the Fishertown Community Bible Church, where he served as choir director for 40 years as well as an elder and a Sunday School teacher..

A 1949 graduate of North Central College of Napierville, Illinois.   He was a founding member of the Fishertown Community Band in 1941, a member of the Bedford County Chorus and Brothers 4x2.,  A past president of the Chestnut Ridge Lions Club and served as the Bedford County Democratic Chairma.n.

Edwin  was the husband of Valma L. (Hengst)  Daugherty, whom he married May 5, 1951..

In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Gary L. husband of  Lisa Lasher, Albion; Son- James E. husband of  Lynn Davidson, Castro Valley, CA.  Edwin is also survived by 3 grandchildren - Brendan, Stephanie wife of Samuel Herscu and Rebekah.  He was preceded in death by 2 brothers - Harvey & Charles and a half-sister - Edna Hershberger.

A Funeral Service will be held  at the Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, Pleasantville, at 10:30  AM on Thursday, January 10th, 2008,  with Rev. Larry Bartholomew officiating.

Interment at Fishertown Cemetery.
