                                 OBITUARY                   April 18, 2008

                                         W. Woodrow "Woody" Fisher

 

 

 

Mr. W. Woodrow "Woody" Fisher, age 91, formerly of  Hoover Road, Schellsburg,  died at 1:35  PM , Thursday, April 17th, 2008 at Pennknoll Village.

Mr. Fisher was born in Napier Township,  on  Wednesday, March 21, 1917,   the son of the late William and Della (Hammers) Fisher.

.From 1942 until 1968 he was a member of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. then was affiliated with the  Bedford Bible Church.

 As a teenager Woody worked on a farm in Ohio, plowing with a team of horses, he later worked in a coal mine, steel mill and painted houses in Johnstown.  When electricity became more widespread, he wired old homes, sold health insurance,  traveled to farms grinding feed, had a well drilling business and was a well known John Deere mechanic for Harry Findley in New Paris and later for Sollenbergers in Everett..

Woody was the widower of Martha A. (Huntsman)  Fisher, whom he married November 3, 1938 and she preceded him in death January 20, 1997..

He is survived by  Son- Thomas W. husband of  Roberta Garrett, Martinsburg, WV; Daughter- Faye LaRue wife of  Joseph Clapper, Jr., Fishertown. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

 Woody was preceded in death by 2 brothers - Warren & Lloyd Fisher, 3 sisters - Effie Benna, Ruth McCreary & Cora Diehl.

A Funeral Service will be held  at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg,  at 2:00  PM on Sunday, April 20th,   2008, with Revs. Rex Lusk & Keith Showalter officiating.

Interment at Schellsburg Cemetery.
