                                 OBITUARY                     February 25, 2007

                                                   Raymond E. Harris

 

 


Raymond E. Harris, age 93, of Reservoir Road, Bedford, PA, went home to be with the Lord at 3:50 AM, Sunday, February 25th, 2007.

Mr. Harris was born in Altoona, PA on November 22, 1913; he was the son of the late James and Ellsie (Benning) Harris.

He worked for the Bedford School District for 35 years and was known by many as "Uncle Raymond", "Candy Man", or "Bubble Gum Man".  He was affiliated with the Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Zion Church.

In his younger years he was a very good hockey and softball player, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  In the summertime he worked at the Cumberland Fair for 24 years and at the Great Bedford Fair up until last year.  Raymond had many accomplishments throughout his life, and one of the ones he was proud of was, helping build the Bedford Reservoir.

Raymond was the husband of Mary Jane (Foor) Harris, whom he married on March 12, 1970.

In addition to his wife he is survived by Daughter- Juanda Burton, Pittsburgh; Daughter- Karen Hill, Washington, DC; Daughter- Helena Harris, Pittsburgh; Daughter-Cynthia Bagley, Bedford; Son- Kenneth husband of  Margaret Mock, Everett; Daughter- Sonja wife of  Frank Hammack, Lititz; Daughter- Eleanor wife of  Russell Gelsinger, Conestoga; Son- Raymond husband of  Tammy (Brook) Mock, Bedford; Son- Harry Mock, Bedford; Daughter- Michelle Harris, Bedford; Sister- Margaret "Peggy" Malloy, NJ; numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.  Raymond was preceded in death by an infant son Ray, Jr., son Rance, sisters-Daisy Goffney, Josephine Williams, & Evelyn Morris.

A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford, PA. at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 28th, 2007 with Rev. Gary Boor & Pastor Vince Martin officiating.

Interment at Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford, PA.
