OBITUARY October 3, 2007
Kayla Ann Nicodemus
Kayla Ann Nicodemus, age 18, of Sloans Hollow Road, Bedford, PA died Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007 at Altoona Trauma Center at 10:05 AM from injuries sustained while a passenger in an automobile accident on the Cresson/St. Francis University Road.
Kayla was born in Windber, on January 1, 1989, daughter of Ronald J. and Karen R. (Kaminski) Nicodemus of Bedford, PA.
She graduated from Chestnut Ridge High School in 2007 and currently was enrolled as a Freshman Psychology Student at St. Francis University, Loretto, PA. She worked as a waitress at the Landmark Restaurant and enjoyed working with restaurant visitors and co-workers. Kayla liked working with people and hoped that someday she would be a State Trooper.
Kayla was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Bedford, where she was an alter server, altar server trainer and participated in the CCD and VBS programs.
She participated in the State Police Camp Cadet program serving as a Cadet, moving up to Senior Cadet. When she was no longer eligible for the cadet program, she served as a volunteer to work in the cadet kitchen. Kayla was one of two cadets chosen to attend the Governor's Honors Camp Cadet Program at the PA State Police Academy in Hershey. While in high school she participated in the Odyssey of the Mind Program, leading her team to win the "Renatra Fusca Award" and the "Omer Award" a first for the Chestnut Ridge School District. Also, in high school, she participated in the Honors Choir and appeared in the annual recitals. She also was a member of the Junior Executive Committee and helped to make many class decisions. In Spanish Class she was initiated in the Spanish Honors Society. Kayla took dance lessons from the Body Language Dance Studio and appeared in their annual dance recital. Her dance group went to Maryland to compete in a dance competition and was awarded third place. She enjoyed being with her friends and boating.
She is survived by her Brother- Bryan Nicodemus at home ; Paternal Great Grandmother- Marie Davis, Bedford; Paternal Great Grandmother- Sara Nicodemus, Bedford; Paternal Grandparents- John and Pauline Nicodemus, Bedford; Maternal Grandparents- Joseph and Ann Kaminski, Bedford; Aunts and Uncles Rodney Nicodemus, Bedford and friend Berla Price; Susan wife of Richard Smyers, Everett; Joann wife Patrick Bittlebrun, Schellsburg; Special Cousins Justyna & Jeremy Bittlebrun, Schellsburg; Special Friend- Jonathan Smith, Bedford.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Baltimore, at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 8th, 2007 with Father Timothy Harris, TOR celebrant.
Committal Service will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to call Sunday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 8:30 PM on Sunday.
