                                 OBITUARY                    February 8, 2008

                                                  Alice M. Saunders

 

 

 

Mrs. Alice M. Saunders, age 106, of Pennknoll Road, Everett, formerly of Coleman Avenue, Portage, died at 6:25  PM , Thursday, February 7th, 2008 at Pennknoll Village,

Mrs. Saunders was born in East St. Clair Township, on Monday, June 24, 1901,  the daughter of the late Abram and Ida May (Imler) Hengst.

She was a  housewife. and in her younger years she worked for Westinghouse Corporation, at Wilmerding..

She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church of Osterburg and attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Portage..

Alice was the 8th of 12 children and the first girl after 7 brothers, the last surviving member of her family.  Although she had no children,  she always enjoyed spending time with her nieces & nephews.  In the year 2000 Alice was inducted into the PA Voter Hall of Fame for having voted at every November election for at least 50 consecutive years.  Alice loved cooking, quilting, her flower and vegetable garden and fishing.  .

She was the widow of Peter   Saunders, whom she married in 1943, and he preceded her in death in 1991..

She is survived by  Brother-in-law- Pete Visnick, Wilmerding.  Alice is also survived by a number of nieces & nephews, caregivers - Lillian Randall of Portage, Niece - Helen Ritchey of Everett.  She was preceded in death by 9 brothers - Guy, Ralph, Harry, John, Warren, Lloyd, George, Ted and Ross, 2 sisters - Mary Brown and Ina Visnick.

A Funeral Service will be held  at Trinity Reformed Church at 11:00  AM on Monday, February 11th, .2008.

Interment at Osterburg Community Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday  at Trinity Reformed Church.
