OBITUARY August 7, 2007
Merle E. Seifert
Mr. Merle E. Seifert, age 87, of Election House Road, Buffalo Mills, died at 7:28 PM , Monday, August 6th, 2007 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Seifert was born in Bard, Tuesday, June 8, 1920, the son of the late Howard and Grace (Holler) Seifert.
He worked as a surveyor for 32 years at PennDot in Hollidaysburg, retiring in 1978, and was a member of the Buffalo Mills United Methodist Church.
Merle was also a member of the Bedford American Legion, Post #113, The Oscar Jordan Post VFW of Hyndman, and a founding member of the Rocky Ridge Sportsmans Club, and a past member of the Fort Bedford Honor Guard..
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant earning a Bronze Star Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars..
Merle was the widower of Pauline K. (Huffman) Seifert, whom he married May 5, 1951 and she preceded him in death March 25, 2006..
He is survived by Daughter- Sara A. Snyder, Bedford; Daughter- Janet M. Long, Buffalo Mills; Sister- Mary Lewis, Buffalo Mills. Merle is also survived by 3 grandchildren - Heather Berkey, Lisa Hagenbuch and Jeffrey Lafferty, 6 great-grandchildren - Madison, Jacob, Emmi, Cameron, Kaylee and Wayden. He was preceded in death a brother - John & a sister - Margaret.
A Funeral Service will be held at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 9th, 2007, with Rev. Mark Griffith officiating.
Interment at Milligans Cove Cemetery, Buffalo Mills, with graveside military rites accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard..
Friends are invited to call Wednesday 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg.
