                                 OBITUARY                    April 14, 2007

                                               Robert T. Swartzwelder

 

 


Robert T. "OB" "RT" Swartzwelder, age 94, of Bedford, PA , died at 11:30 AM , Friday, April 13th, 2007 at home.

Mr. Swartzwelder was born in Friends Cove, PA on August 20, 1912, he was the son of the late Daniel and Viola (Perdew) Swartzwelder.

In his earlier years he and his wife ran the Charlesville General Store, and then in partnership with Eugene Perdew he owned and operated East End Tractor Sales for many years. Robert graduated from Bedford High School in 1931, Valedictorian of his class, and graduated from Shippensburg University. Mr Swartzwelder also taught school in the Bedford Area School District, and was one of the few who taught at the Seminary in Rainsburg.
Known to his friends as "Ob" or "RT" he enjoyed playing poker, shooting pool, and most of all Trout Fishing. He was a welcomed weekly guest at Bill and Charlotte Schaeffer's house in Friends Cove. Robert was a member of the Sierra Club, and a longtime member of the Friends Cove Sportsman's Club where he was Treasurer for many years. .

He was the widower of Edythe (Perdew) Swartzwelder, whom he married on February 26, 1936 and she preceded him in death on June 18, 1984.

Robert is survived by Daughter- Sally wife of Carl Claar, Bedford; Daughter- Kaye wife of Richard "Whipper" Will, Bedford; Sister- Edith Meadows, TX; Sister- Jean Boldizsar, Watertown, NY. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren-William McCann, Brandin Claar, Robert & Jeffrey Dean Wilson, Patricia Lengel, and Sandra DeWitt-Lewis, and 10 great grandchildren-Tara, Marissa, and Julia Edythe McCann, Luke, Elijah Wilson and sister Casie, Alexis and Brett Lengel, Dallas DeWitt, and Zoey Lewis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by a daughter Barbara Jean Wilson, a sister Ethel Koontz, and four brothers-Ellis, John, Harold, and Richard.

A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford, PA. at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 17th, with Rev. Joseph Puleo officiating.

Interment at Wood's Church Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford.
