                                 OBITUARY                    July 17, 2007

                                                  Andrew Telmanik

 

 

 

Mr. Andrew   Telmanik, age 88, of Carol Avenue, Greencastle, but formerly of Country Ridge Road, Bedford, died at 3:26  AM , Sunday, July 15th, 2007 at Waynesboro Hospital, in Waynesboro, Franklin County.

Mr. Telmanik was born in Central City,  on Saturday, October 19, 1918,   the son of the late John and Mary (Stefaniv) Telmanik.

Andrew graduatd with a B. A. Degree in education from the University of South Florida of Tampa in 1967. He was a  sixth grade teacher from 1968 until 1978 at Manns Choice Elementary School. He was later the head teacher at Bedford Middle School from 1979 until 1982, and was a member of the Bedford Area Education Association.

Mr. Telmanik was a member of St. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church.

He retired as a Major from the U.S. Marines after 26 years  serving  during WW II & Korea. He served in Guantanamo Bay, Samoan Islands, Guadalcanal,Solomon Islands, Melbourne, Australia & New Britain..

Andrew was the husband of Margaret E. (Miller)  Telmanik, whom he married July 27, 1944..

In addition to his wife he is survived by Daughter- Claire T. wife of  Bruce Drury, Bethesda, MD; Daughter- Lynne wife of  Robert Wilkinson, Greencastle.  Andrew is also survived by 4 grendchildren - Christopher, John, Daniel, & Brian, along with a great-grandson - Jackson.   He was preceded in death by an infant brother - Joseph, brothers - John, George and Michael, 4 sisters - Ann Pribish, Marge Balog, Mary Murray & Helen Conjelko.

A Funeral Service will be held  at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg,  at 1:00  PM on Friday, July 20th,  2007, with The Very Rev. John Pribish officiating.

Interment at Fishertown Cemetery, with graveside military rites by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard and Marine  Corps Honors from Quantico, Virginia
