J.C. Lannis Blevins

J.C. Lannis  Blevins, 97, of Pensyl Hollow Road,  Bedford died at 10:10 PM, Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at home.

Mr. Blevins was born in Grassy Creek, NC on December 7, 1921,  son of the late Claude and Mamie (Hoppers) Blevins.

On February 11, 1944 in Baltimore, MD Lannis married Betty (Koontz) Blevins. This past February they celebrated 75 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Charles Wynn husband of  Leslie (Acker) Blevins, Cessna; Daughter- Patsy B. wife of  Rodney Corle, Cessna; Grandchildren Kelly, Becky, Thomas and Amy; Great-Grandchildren Kacy, Kody, Ian, Zachary and Autumn; Sister- Jean Dent, VA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Lannis is preceded in death by Brothers- Roger, Odis and Jack Blevins and Sisters- Marie Watson, Evelyn Ball, Velma Blackwell, Tharon Hubbard.

Mr. Blevins served in the U.S. Navy during WW II as a Seaman 1st class. where he earned the American: Victory-World War II Asiatic-Pacific Medal.

Before the war he worked as a welder in the Baltimore shipyards and also a laborer for Glen L. Martin Airplanes. After he was employed at Continental Can Company. Lannis was a long time Barber at Logue's Barber Shop in Bedford. He later retired in 1986 from Whestinghouse, Manns Choice.

He was a lifetime member of  Pleasant Home Baptist Church Grassy Creek, NC.

Lannis greatly enjoyed farming and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Friends will be received on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 4-7PM and Monday, April 22, 2019 from 10-11AM at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford.

Interment at St. Paul’s Reformed Cemetery, Cessna

A funeral service will be held  at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford  at 11:00AM on Monday, April 22, 2019  with Pastor Howard Sloan officiating.
