Mrs. Janet R. Critchfield, 76, of Valley Road, New Paris, died Monday, October 9th, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.

Mrs. Critchfield was born in St. Clairsville on September 22, 1941,  the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Thelda I. (Miller) Hengst.

She is survived by  Son- Joel Linn Critchfield husband of CheChee (Spade) Critchfield, Pearland, TX; Daughter- Jamie Lynn Tew wife of Tom Tew, Alum Bank; Brother- William C. Hengst, Fishertown; Companion- Richard Price.  Janet was Nanny to six grandchildren, Ty, Chezni, Ali and her husband, Brennan, Tana & Cullie and to four beloved great grandchildren, her "Best Buddy", Xavier, Hadly, Enzlie & Izan.  Janet was known as DeeDee to her niece, Kelly, wife of Barry and their children, Faith and Grace & to her nephew, JR and his wife Traci and their children, Kyle & Kaylee. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Linda Hengst.

Janet was a graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School and a graduate of the Conemaugh School of Nursing.  She retired after 43 years of employment from UPMC Bedford Hospital, where she worked as a registered nurse and was the head nurse of the OB Department.  Janet enjoyed shopping, going to yardsales and traveling.  Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Janet will be remembered as a loving, caring and funny woman, who was devoted to her family. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and she will be greatly missed .

A Funeral Service will be held at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg, at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 13th, 2017 with Pastor Dan Oldham officiating.

Interment will be held at Fishertown Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Geisel Funeral Home in Schellsburg.
