Joanna R. Koontz, 96, of Egolf Road, Bedford passed away into eternity on Monday, October 28, 2019 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.
Joanna, or Julie as many called her was born in Jasonville, Indiana on August 2, 1923, one of thirteen children of the late Frank and Sophia (Witt) Jaskowiak.
She was married to Claude E. Koontz in Milwaukee, WI on August 21, 1948, moving first to Maryland and then to Pennsylvania where the home was built in about 1956. Claude preceded her in death on January 12, 2005.
Julie loved being a Catholic, attending Catholic Mass and having been a member of the Catholic Daughters. She had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother. At one time she was an alto in the Church Choir, having been gifted with a natural alto voice.
She enjoyed traveling with Claude, better known as Gene many places in the country and in Canada in their RV as well as traveling overseas in Europe on a trip in 1975 to visit their Daughter Veronica (Janie) stationed in the Army in West Berlin, Germany.
In most recent times at Pennknoll, she loved playing Bingo and attended Gospel services in the activity room.
She is survived by Son- Stephen E. husband of Radna L. (Detwiler) Koontz, Harrisonville; Daughter- Veronica J. wife of Jose Luis Aguado, Waco, TX; Son- Lance Koontz, Bedford; Son- Gerry husband of Lisa (Corral) Koontz, San Diego, CA; Son- Michael P. husband of Julie (Brackeen) Koontz, Lorena, TX; Son- Thomas E. husband of Valerie Ann (Craig) Koontz, Everett. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Church, Bedford at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 2, 2019 with Father Richard Tomkosky-Celebrant.
A committal will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
