Leroy Grine

February 21, 1931 — January 2, 2020

Leroy Grine a resident of Colonial Courtyard, Donahue Road, Bedford, PA formerly of New Paris went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Colonial Courtyard, Bedford, PA . He was born February 21, 1931, the son of Ruth Grine Weyant and John H. Weyant. He was born at the Clark and Ella Swasy homestead in Schellsburg, PA. He was a 1949 graduate of the Schellsburg-Napier High School. On August 4, 1950 he married Vivian A. (Frazier) Grine and they were married 62 years until her death on March 22, 2013.

Shortly after graduation he was employed as a gardener for Falkland Farms in Schellsburg. In 1950 he went to work for Kissell Concrete in Johnstown. He worked there for 28 years. They went out of business and he started to work for Fi-Hoff Concrete in 1977 as a concrete finisher. In 1993 after 44 years in the concrete business he retired.

He was a charter member of the Chestnut Ridge Lions Club. He was on the Board of Directors at Bethel Park Camp. He was a member of the Bedford Choraleers. Former trumpet player for the New Paris Band. In school he participated in FFA State Band. At Alum Bank United Methodist Church, he was a choir director and Sunday School teacher for years. Also was a member of a father/son quartet at the church. He later became a member of Faith Brethren Church in New Paris where he was very faithful in attendance until he moved to Colonial Courtyard.

Leroy was known throughout the county and state as someone who could douse (smell) for water. You could see him at a number of places with either a peach or cherry limb smelling for water. People depended on his God given talent to help them find water for wells, or water lines, or septic tanks.

Leroy and his wife, Vivian, toured most of the US states in a camper and they enjoyed it immensely.  Being with his family and friends was very important to him. The Grine’s have 5 children. Connie, wife of Rev. Barry Weyant, of North Carolina; Rod Grine and fiancée Sherry Tessari, Salix; Larry, husband of Susie (Chamberlain) Grine of East Freedom; Cindy Grine (deceased) of Millville, NJ and Stephanie, wife of Larry Hyde, Manns Choice. He also has 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. One surviving sister, Debbie (Weyant) Reploge and husband George of Martinsburg and several nieces and nephews. On September7, 2013 Leroy got married to Rita M. (Logan) Rose of Bedford. And on May 20, 2018 Rita went to be with her Lord. Leroy was preceded in death by Daughter- Cindy Grine, Sister-Doris Bruce and Sister Verna Wiley.

Friends will be received on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 2-5PM and Monday, January 6, 2020 from 9-10AM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 10:00AM with Pastor Jim Espenshade officiating with Rev. Barry Weyant assisting with the service.

Interment at Schellsburg Cemetery.
