Nathan H. Whetstone

March 1, 1931 — March 8, 2018

Nathan H. Whetstone, 87, closed his eyes at his home in Manns Choice on March 8, 2018 and opened them looking into the face of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to hear him say "Well done my good and faithful servant.  Enter into the joys of your Lord."
Nathan was born March 1, 1931, in the family home in Manns Choice, the last child of Robert H. and Effie C. (Scritchfield) Whetstone.  He was preceded in death by his siblings:  Lawrence, Henry, Herbert, Thelma, Lewis, Roger, and Ruth.
On March 7, 1951 in Cumberland, Maryland he married Marian R. (Herline), daughter of Jacob C. and M. Ruth Herline.  His loving and devoted wife preceded him in death on October 20, 2000.
Nathan and Marian had four children who survive them: Lynnford R. and wife Beth (Fetter) of Bedford; Winona J. and husband Carl Anderson of Hollywood, Florida; Jonathan G. and wife Bonny (Greenawalt) of Bedford; and Valorie M. and husband Gilford Pellerin of Pembroke Pines, Florida.  He is survived by 12 grandchildren:  Kevin, Denise, Sheri, Leanna, Will, Misti, Kent, Tyler, Eric, Nikki, Juli, Andrew; and 4 great grandchildren:  Shayla, Kamden, Kendal, and Grayson.
On January 18, 2003 at the Manns Choice Church of God he married his childhood sweetheart, Lillian Maxine (Summers-O'Brien) Whetstone.  She survives along with her children: Patrick and wife Anne-Marie of Hamburg Township, MI and William and wife Sue of Wolverine Lake, MI; and 6 grandchildren: Samantha, Brendan, Conner, Katie, Elsa-Marie, and Ben.
Nathan was a 1948 graduate of Schellsburg-Napier High School.  He grew up working with his father and brother, Lewis, at the family sawmill in Manns Choice.  After the sawmill burned down he went to work at his brother Roger's body shop in Manns Choice and cut paperwood on the weekends.  He was hired by Hedstrom in 1966, where he helped to set up the factory before it even opened.  He worked there as a welder and machinist until he retired after 27 years.
Nathan was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends.  His favorite place to be was in the mountains - God's country.
Nathan was a man of unwavering faith in his Lord Jesus Christ and belief in the holy scriptures of the Bible. He was a life-long member of the Manns Choice Church of God where he was a pillar of spiritual guidance through his teaching and working in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  He held many positions of leadership:  Sunday School Superintendent (20 years), Adult Bible Class Teacher (40 years), trustee, councilman, and worship leader.
Nathan's family is so thankful for the dedicated and loving care that he received from his caregivers: Christina, Joan, Judy, Michelle, Shelly and Grane Hospice nurses, Michelle and Dana and the entire staff.
