Betty Jane (Merkle) Parfitt

Betty Jane Parfitt, 93, of 537 Lafayette Avenue, Bedford, passed away after an extended illness on January 31, 2024, at Villa Crest Nursing Home in Johnstown.

She was born July 10, 1930, in Bedford, the only child of Cloyd F. and Beulah R. (Wonders) Merkle. Her husband, Albert E. Parfitt, died February 1, 2004.

A lifelong resident of Bedford, Betty was an avid roller skater and worked as an usher at the Pitt Theater. She graduated Bedford High School in 1949.

On July 31, 1949 she married Albert E. Parfitt in the Methodist Church of Bedford. She is survived by her three sons, William R. and wife Diana of Harlem, Ga, Albert E. of Bedford, and John L. and wife Lisa of Sanford, Fl. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Bryan Parfitt and Kandyce (Parfitt) Salik, and four great-grandchildren, Jackson and Sophia Parfitt, and Colton and Logan Salik. She was a member of the Bedford Methodist Church and the Bedford Chapter of the American Legion.

At the request of Betty, services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in the Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford.
