Mr. Chester W. Hillegass, 93, of Juniata St., New Baltimore died Monday, February 27th, 2017 at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
Mr. Hillegass was born in Central City on Saturday, April 21, 1923,  the son of the late Warren and Grace (Manges) Hillegass.

On February 26, 1949, he married Ida Mae Hankison.  In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Donald E. husband of Carol (Glessner) Hillegass, Manns Choice; Daughter- Karen E. wife of Greg Will, Berlin; Son- Jeffrey W. husband of Brenda (Leister) Hillegass, New Baltimore; Sister- Pauline Clark, Breezewood; Sister- Catherine Ross, Mt. Pleasant, MI. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Todd, Matthew, Jill, Greg, Stephanie, Joshua & Kelsey, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, a brother, Lester "Brig" Hillegass and by two sisters, Helen Shippy and Ruth Hillegass

Chester was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Baltimore.  He was a combat veteran, serving in the US Army during W.W.II.  Chester was a truck driver, driving for Eastern Express and Spector Motor Freight.  While working for Eastern Express, he became a part of the Million Mile Accident Free Club.  Chester was a life member of the New Baltimore Fire Company, a member of the Last Man's Club, a member of the New Baltimore Sportsman's Club and the oldest life member of Schellsburg VFW Post #4440.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and he will be dearly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Baltimore. at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 3rd, 32017 with Father Richard Tomkosky, celebrant.

Committal Services will be held at St. Johns Cemetery, New Baltimore. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Chester to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
