Dixie L Defibaugh, 81, formerly of New Paris, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from UPMC Altoona Hospital, Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Dixie was born in Bedford on February 24, 1941, the daughter of Harold and Gertrude (Mullen) Defibaugh.
She is survived by sister- Peggy Hoagland widow of Samuel, of Bedford; brother- Harold Defibaugh and wife Penny, of Everett; sister- Susan Wakeman and husband James of Bedford. Numerous nieces and nephews: Richard & Darren Cecil; Harold David, Adam, & Matthew Defibaugh, Amy Hess; Tammy and Scott Wakeman and for a year Dixie mentored Jim Keener.
Dixie attended The Quaker Church in Fishertown. She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America for over 50 years and member of the Audubon Society.
She graduated from high school and continued on to Juniata College where she received her bachelors degree in 1963. Dixie then continued on to nursing school at Temple University and graduated in 1967.
Dixie went on to serve her country in the United States Army and served as a Captain Army Nurse on the front lines of war in Vietnam. Dixie loved being a neo natal nurse takin care of "Babas".
She was a nurse at the community house for a number of years. Dixie enjoyed doing crafts, baking cakes, and singing in community chorus. Dixie was a great community volunteer by going and helping at the New Paris food bank, a swimming instructor, umpire and at the Everett Railroad Museum. She loved Alaska and visited all 50 states.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, April 15, from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Louis Geisel Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 2 P.M. at Louis Geisel Funeral Home with Chaplin Paul Carter officiating. Internment will be at Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford, PA.
Military rites accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
