Mrs. Dorothy D. Shaffer, 91, of Bedford, died Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Shaffer was born in Salisbury, Somerset County on March 18, 1925,  the daughter of the late Robert H. and Nellie (Statler) Deist.

On August 20, 1946, she married John W. Shaffer, Sr.  He preceded her in death on February 16, 2006.

She is survived by  Daughter- Susan A. wife of Robert Hallenberg, Sr., Louisville, KY; Son- John W. Shaffer, Jr. husband of Sherry (Orr), Bedford; Brother- Robert Lee Deist, Bedford. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Erik, Shea, Gretchen, Jonathan, Megan & Robbie, and six great grandchildren, Matthew, Blaise, Cade, Drake, Oscar & Reagan. She was preceded in death by a sister Vida Louise Frederick.

Dot was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church.  She was a 1943 graduate of Bedford High School where she was the Head Majorette.  Mrs. Shaffer then attended Burnell Collage in Georgia.

She, along with her husband, formerly owned and operated Deist Cleaners, one of the oldest continuously family owned businesses in Bedford, operating since 1926.  Dot was a lifetime member of the Bedford American Legion  and the Bedford Elks.  She was a member for over 50 years of the Order of Eastern Star #41 Bedford Springs Chapter, where she was a former Worthy Matron.  Mrs. Shaffer was very active in the Garden Club and enjoyed golfing, playing bridge with her buddies, shopping, entertaining,having lunch with her friends, watching sports and sipping on her Manhattan. Dot was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 with Rev. Doug Friant & Rev. Paul Claycomb officiating.

Interment will be held at Doublebrick Cemetery, Friends Cove.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 3:00 - 7:00 PM and Saturday from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the Geisel Funeral Home in Bedford.
