Edith J. (Diehl) Laird

Edith J. Laird, 84, of Ponderosa Road, Schellsburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Pennknoll Village, Snake Spring Twp.

Mrs. Laird was born on November 1, 1937, in Napier Twp., daughter of the late Albert L. and Edna M. (Cornell) Diehl.

On November 14, 1964, Edith married James B. Clark in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death in 1983.

On April 6, 1991, in Schellsburg, PA Edith married Robert E. Laird.

Along with her husband Robert she is survived by brother- Harry D. Diehl, Everett and numerous nieces and nephews. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, first husband James B. Clark, brother- Charles, sisters- Ethel and Kathleen and an infant sister.

Mrs. Laird worked at Memorial Hospital of Bedford from 1983-1991.

She was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending Sunday School and varies activities they held at the church.

Edie was a member of the Bedford Lioness Club.

Edith started to learn to crochet in the 60's and 70's from her older sister and in 1991 and 1992 she really got into crocheting and taught herself how to read patterns. She started to enter her handmade items at the Bedford County Fair which included table clothes, doilies and a bedspread, winning a couple blue ribbons. In October 2006 she started crocheting a popcorn stitch coverlet and after months of crocheting and 17,650 yards of thread it was completed just in time for the July fair where it won a blue ribbon. This tedious stitched beautiful coverlet made by Edith not only won a blue ribbon at the fair but was also featured in Country Woman magazine.

Edith was an amazingly talented, hardworking and sincere person who will be greatly missed.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, June 13, 2022, from Noon-2PM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg with a Funeral Service at 2:00PM with Jim Miller officiating.

Interment at Bedford County Memorial Park.
