Obituary

John Fred Lancaster, of New Paris, Pa, passed away peacefully at his home on October 5th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 11th, 1948, John was a graduate of Mt. Union Area High School. He was a member of Mt. Union Church of Lovely, Pa. John was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, post 9219 and the American Legion of Bedford, post 0113.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His family was the most important part of his life, and he cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was especially fond of family gatherings and the many memories made together over the years. His beloved dog, Luna, was also a very special part of his life.

John proudly served his country as a United States Air Force veteran. During his military service, he served as a crew chief on the F-4 Phantom II, working on aircraft that traveled to Vietnam. His service to his country was a source of great pride for both John and his family.

John was a hardworking man who enjoyed a variety of hobbies and outdoor activities. He loved hunting, raising whitetail deer, farming, butchering, and fishing. He also enjoyed race cars and sports. Whether he was working around the farm, spending time outdoors, watching a race or sporting event, or simply sitting with his family, John was happiest when he was doing the things he loved with the people he loved.

John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of family, his dedication to his country, and the many traditions and memories he passed down to those who knew him. He took great pride in his family and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

John is survived by his loving wife, Lois D. Lancaster; his children, John M. Lancaster wife Janet Lancaster of New Paris, Pa, Glenn Lancaster wife Kala Lancaster of Manns Choice, Pa, Chad Lancaster wife Lacy Lancaster of New Paris, Pa; his grandchildren, Candi married to Chad Bowers, Felicia married to Dustin Yarnell, Tynicia engaged to Eric Vandiver, Taylor married to Chris Weist, Hunter Lancaster, Bentley married to Jordan Mock, Addi Lancaster, Brynn Lancaster, and Berkley Lancaster; his great-grandchildren, Aubrey Yarnell, Saige Yarnell, Chazz Bowers, Alexa Yarnell, Cemi Bowers, Sienna Yarnell, Elliana Vandiver, and Dawson Yarnell; and numerous extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him Merle Kempest Lancaster and Cecilia Jane of Shirleysburg, Pa, mother Sara Dinardi, father Merle Lancaster, and several aunts and uncles.

Family members will join at the Mt. Union Church of Lovely for a Celebration of Life honoring John.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Union Church of Lovely in John's memory.

John's greatest joy was his family, and his greatest legacy will be the love, lessons, traditions, and memories he leaves behind. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Rest peacefully, John. Your work here is done, but your legacy lives on.
