Obituary

Joseph W. Styer, 94, of Colerain Twp., Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026 at his home on Main Road.

Joe was born in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, on June 13, 1932, son of the late Joseph R. Styer and Elizabeth (Deery) Styer.

On November 3, 1951, he married his wife Mary (Bates) Styer, who preceded him in death on May 30, 2024, they were happily married 72 years.

He is survived by daughter- Cynthia wife of James Martin, of Phoenixville; son- Wayne "Bodie" Styer fiancé of Barbara Straight, of Bedford; daughter- Joanne Styer, of Pittsburgh; daughter- Tammy wife of Derry Furry, of New Enterprise; son- Russell Styer, of Bedford; daughter-in-law Christine Styer, of West Chester; fourteen grandchildren: Michael (Michelle) Styer, Daniel (Jessica) Styer, Joseph (Brittney) Styer, Steven Styer, Luke (Heidi) Martin, Ben (Ashley) Martin, Zach (Andrea) Martin, Shaun (Julie) Styer, Ryan (Amber) Styer, Cory (Erica) Furry, Whitley (Cy) Mellott, Justin (Caitlyn) Styer, Jarrod (Shae) Styer, and Jacob Styer; along with 20 great-grandchildren; siblings: Gerald Styer, of Glen Moore; Paul (Judy) Styer, of New Paris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe is preceded in death by son- Bruce Styer and brothers: Ronald Styer, Harvey Styer.

Joseph was affiliated with the Trinity United Church of Christ, Friends Cove. He was a lifelong dairy farmer, who loved farming with his John Deere Tractors. In his spare time, he would take his beloved Belgian horses for a wagon ride around Friends Cove. He started his farming days as a herdsman at Kimberton Farms in his early years until he started farming in Eagle, PA; until the early 1970's where he and Mary bought their dream farm in Bedford County where he resided until his final day. Joe was a founding member of the Bedford County Draft Animal Club at the Bedford County Fair, where he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren show their animals for over 55 years. He enjoyed drinking coffee, watching John Wayne Movies, Westerns and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates. 

A viewing will be on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 4-8 PM and on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 1-2 PM at Geisel-Styer Funeral Homes, Bedford.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 2 PM at Geisel-Styer Funeral Homes, Bedford, with Rev. Dr. William "Bill" Strout officiating. 

Interment will be at Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery, Friends Cove, PA. 

The family would like to thank caregiver Amy and Grane Hospice nurses Kenzie, Julie and Amy for their warmth and loving care towards Joe.
