Kathleen M. Thompson
February 11, 1952 - July 4, 2026
It is with heavy hearts, yet profound gratitude for her remarkable life, that we announce the peaceful passing of Kathleen Marie (Felten) Thompson on July 4, 2026. Surrounded by her loving family, Kathie left this world as she lived in it - enveloped in care and warmth at her home in Bedford, Pennsylvania.
Born on February 11, 1952, in the town of Bedford, Pennsylvania, Kathie was the beloved daughter of the late Lloyd Felten and Margaret (Wolfhope) Felten. She was a proud graduate of Bedford High School, class of 1970, where her bright spirit and kindness planted seeds of lifelong friendships.
On November 11, 1985, Kathie married the love of her life, James Thompson, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Together they shared four decades of unwavering devotion, laughter, and cherished memories. Their union was blessed with four wonderful children: the late James Lloyd Thompson, who remains forever in their hearts, along with Brian Thompson, Christopher Thompson, and Melissa Felten, who carry forward their mother's legacy of love and strength.
Kathie was a dedicated stay-at-home mom whose life revolved around the happiness and well-being of family. Her culinary talents were renowned, especially when it came to preparing holiday meals that became treasured traditions. Her kitchen was a haven of aromas and warmth, where family and friends gathered to share stories and laughter.
A woman of culture and curiosity, Kathie held a deep appreciation for the masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance, particularly those of Michelangelo. Her trips to Rome and Florence were milestones in her life, where she stood in awe of the Vatican's art and marveled at historic sites, creating memories that she cherished deeply.
Kathie is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, James Douglas Thompson, her loving children, daughter Melissa Felten and life-long companion Jim Entress; her son Brian Thompson and wife Christina (Wade) Thompson; and son Christopher Thompson; her dear sister Nancy (Felten) Diehl, and brother-in -law, Ernie Diehl; her sister-in-law Nancy (Thompson) Mountain and husband Ned Mountain; and her sister-in-law Debbie (Thompson) Burkhart and husband Dennis Burkhart.
She also leaves behind niece Valleri (Diehl) Weyant and her husband Jim Weyant; niece Barbara (Mountain) Vigue) and husband Jason Vigue; niece Amanda Mountain and wife Bridget Cabrera; nephew Dan Diehl and wife Janice (Eaton) Diehl; and nephew Andy Diehl and life companion Daisy Cruz, who will forever remember Aunt Kathie's kindness and generosity.
A Funeral Mass and committal will be held at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, 101 Findley St., New Baltimore, Pa 15553, where friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for her life on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM. The Mass will be celebrated by Pastor Fr. Mark Pattock, OFMcap. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to UPMC Hospice services, especially to her nurse Kristie Whitfield, and her aide Lori Diehl, her "angels", for their compassionate care and support during Kathie's final days.
Friends and family will be received at the Barn immediately following the committal service at the cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathie's name to Family Hospice, 20 Sheraton Drive, Altoona, Pa 16601 or online at tiny.cc/FHmemorial.
Though she will be dearly missed, Kathleen Felten Thompson leaves behind a legacy of love, art, and family that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her memory will forever be a guiding light, reminding us all of the beauty in kindness and the joy found in family.
