Lance Koontz

November 5, 1956 — February 5, 2024

Lance Koontz, 67, of Bedford, PA passed away peacefully at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation Center in Altoona, PA.

Lance was born in Bedford County Memorial Hospital November 5, 1956, son of the late Claude E. (Gene) Koontz and Joanna R. (Julie) Koontz.  He grew up in Friends Cove.

After graduation from Bedford High School in 1974, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June of that same year, and served at Camp Pendleton, California until March of 1976.

He then attended the Pennsylvania School of Technology in 1985 and returned to California.

His last residence in California was in Barstow until he returned to live with his mother as her major caregiver at her home in Friends Cove, Bedford County, PA.

Lance took excellent care of his mother, in particular buying extra food to make sure she received nutritious meals.  He loved to cook for himself and her.

Lance made it possible for communication between his older sister, Veronica and his mother by Skype as she had moved to another state.  Lance had quite the collection of electronic equipment.  He also played the bass guitar.

Another great interest and joy of his was to take care of a cat his mother had inherited.

Lance is survived by brothers Stephen, Gerard, Michael and Tom and by his sister Veronica.

Lance will be buried at Bedford Memorial Park Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Online condolences may be expressed at Arrangements entrusted to Geisel-Styer Funeral Home, Bedford, Pennsylvania.
