Leroy L. "Spud" Callihan

Leroy L. "Spud" Callihan, 85, of Grange Hill Road, Fishertown, PA, died Monday, December 6, 2021, at home with his daughters by his side.

Mr. Callihan was born in West St. Clair Twp, PA on October 10, 1936, son of the late Harold "Ted" and Ruth (Price) Callihan.

On October 15, 1955, Leroy married Doris A. (Shaffer) Callihan. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2010.

He is survived by Daughter- Holly F. Callihan, Bedford; Daughter- Sherry L. widow of Edward Strayer, Bedford; Granddaughters Tessa and Abby; Great Granddaughters Alivia and Scarlett; Sister- Doris Hickey, Bedford; Sister- Carolyn Ferguson, York and a very special friend- Lynn Strayer, Bedford.  Leroy "Spud" was preceded in death by his brother- Eugene "Moose" Callihan and son-in-law Edward Strayer.

Spud was very hard working, he worked for Bunny Bread in Bedford as a mechanic, he drove coal trucks he then retired from the PA Turnpike Commision where he was a mechanic and after only 2 short months Spud knew retirement wasn't for him, so he went back to work and drove flatbed trucks for Corle Construction delivering metal buildings.

Spud helped with the restoration of the Old Stone Church in Fishertown, this project brought great joy to him to see it brought back to life. He was a kind-hearted and hardworking man that would help you with anything you needed. He could often be found tinkering in his garage, working a lot on old tractors or projects for others. If the parts couldn't be ordered Spud was a handyman and was able to fabricate whatever part was needed.

One of the great joys of his life were his granddaughters, Tessa and Abby and great granddaughters, Alivia and Scarlett.

Spud was always quick-witted and loved a good joke. He would bring a smile to anyone. Spud was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend that will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113.

Friends will be received on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 11AM-2PM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM on December 9, 2021, with Pastor Dan Oldham officiating.

Interment at Stone Church Cemetery, Fishertown, PA.
