Mary Lucille Furry, 86, of New Enterprise, Pennsylvania went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
Mary Lu was born in Bellwood on May 16, 1940, daughter of the late Gilbert H. and Pauline (Campbell) Laird.
On August 31, 1958, she married her "one and only" sweetheart, Joseph H. Furry, of New Enterprise, who survives.
She is survived by a daughter- Zeta, wife of Heyward Myers of New Enterprise; son- Derry J. husband of Tammy (Styer) Furry, of New Enterprise; four grandchildren: Britta (Ryan) McCreary of OH; Dylan Snowberger (fiance, Lindsay Treece) of Newry; Cory (Erica Waltman) Furry of Everett; Whitley (Cy) Mellott of New Enterprise; six great- grandchildren: Rue, Jet, Camile, Ella, Eliza, Otto; sister- Zeta Turnbaugh of Altoona; brother- Randy (Roxanne) Laird of Jersey Shore; and sister-in-law Betty Sue Laird of New Enterprise. Mary Lu was preceded in death by brother- Tim Laird and brother-in-law- Alton Turnbaugh.
Mary Lu was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren, where she served many positions, including youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, and church librarian. She was a Cub Scout Leader and Girl Scout leader. She was very active in her children's and grandchildren's hobbies. She gladly provided them with transportation, snacks, and homemade iced tea for many miles and many years. Mary Lu drove a school bus for over two decades and loved taking the high school's sports teams to their games. Mary Lu worked alongside her husband, Joe, milking cows on their dairy farm. She volunteered for many years for the Bedford County Dairy Promotion organization, as she was very passionate about her Jersey Cows and her favorite Basketball Team "DUKE". She and Joe were co-owners and operators of Furry's Orchard in New Enterprise.
A private family graveside will be held at New Enterprise Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren in memory of Mary Lu Furry.
