Samuel H. Ray, 86, Egolf Road, Bedford, died at 4:50 PM, Wednesday, October 31st, 2018. Mr. Ray was born in Roaring Spring, Pa on March 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Charles O. and Hazel (Hamilton) Ray. He was the husband of Sara Jane (Burket) Ray whom he married on August 11, 1956 at the Roaring Spring Trinity United Methodist Church. Sam and Jane just recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. In addition to his wife Sam is survived by Daughter- Amy L. Ray, Bedford, PA; Son- Todd C. husband of Holly (Reichart) Ray, Hummelstown, PA; Grandson- Benjamin husband of Leslie (Miller) Ray, Gettysburg, PA; Granddaughter- Kristen L. Ray, New York City, NY; Grandson- Chad C. Ray, Hummelstown, PA; Sister- Tess wife of Fred Gunther, Moorsville, NC. Samuel is preceded in death by Sisters Doris Musselman and Joetta Tipton. Sam was a straight forward, hard-working, loyal man and always willing to help others. He lived his faith by word and deed and was generous with his time and talents to his family and friends. He led his life by example and was a good mentor and teacher. Sam especially enjoyed time spent with his family, whether boating at the lake, gathering at the cabin, vacations with the grandchildren to Myrtle Beach or the traditional Ray Apple Butter making. Besides being with his family he enjoyed many outdoor activities like: biking, skiing, gardening and gathering firewood. Sam was employed by Bedford Rural Electric Cooperative for 39 Years where he worked as an Office Manager. He was a member of Bedford United Methodist Church, the Bedford Masonic Lodge, and also a Township Auditor for Snake Spring Twp. Sam donated many gallons of blood to the Red Cross. Mr. Ray served in the U.S. Army and was an important part of the community throughout his life. Friends will be received Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 2-4 PM at the Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Inc. A Funeral Service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 5th, with Pastor Jim Miller and Pastor Robert Marsh officiating.
