Sandy Marie Detwiler, 69, of Bedford, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at her home in East St. Clair Township.
Sandy was born in Bedford on September 27, 1956, daughter of the late George L. Beaner Sr. and Shirley (Fritz) Beaner, of Alum Bank.
On January 1, 1990, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) W. Detwiler, of Bedford.
She is survived by mother- Shirley Beaner, of Alum Bank; daughter- Renee Detwiler partner of Jim Long, of Johnstown; daughter- Valorie wife of Caleb Kegg, of Everett; daughter- Renee wife of Wes Hudnall, of Salcha, AK; son- Eric Miller husband of Kristi, of Bedford; siblings: Randy Beaner, George Beaner Jr., Cletus (Betty) Beaner, Joel (Lucy) Beaner; along with 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Sandy is preceded in death by her sister- Thelma.
She worked as a nurse's aid at Bedford Memorial Hospital until she decided to pursue her dream of teaching. She graduated from UPJ in December of 1998, and worked as a teacher and after school coordinator in the local districts. After retirement she kept busy volunteering with the Loysburg Lions, Alum Bank Fire Company, and the New Paris Food Bank. She was active at Connect Church and Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church. She also served as the Judge of Elections for St. Clairsville Borough and East St. Clair Township.
When she wasn't busy with family or friends, she could often be found on the swing Bob built her watching the birds and squirrels or reading a book. She had a vast collection of candy dishes and souvenir spoons from her adventures with Bob. She also enjoyed spending time with Miss Grace her beloved cat.
Sandy was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Family and Friends are welcome to join in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 11:00am at Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sandy M. Detwiler to a local charity or church.
