Stewart "Monroe"  Hickey, Jr.,29, of Bedford, died Tuesday, May 30th, 2017.

Monroe was born in Albuquerque, NM on January 4, 1988,  the son of Stewart M Hickey of Bedford and Andrea Arey of California.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step mother, Ellen (Peck) Hickey of Bedford; his step father, Tim Perlick of California and by Brother- Charles Franklin Keister husband of Denielle (Lepley) Hickey, Camp Pendleton, CA; Brother- Andrew Zell husband of Tina (Fejer) Hickey, Cumberland, MD; Sister- Ali June Washabaugh, McConnellsburg; Brother- Bryce Elliott Summers, McConnellsburg; Grandmother- Anna Hickey Smith, Florida; Grandparents- Don & Lois Arey, Arizona; Grandparents- June & Carl Peck, McConnellsburg; Nieces & Nephew- Ella, Sawyer & Marlee; Long time Friends- Norm and Sherri Growden, Centerville an by his faithful dog, JoePa.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John D. Hickey.

Monroe was a member of the Providence Lutheran Church in Centerville.  He was a 2006 graduate of Bedford High School and earned an Associates Degree from Allegheny College of Maryland and a Bachelors Degree in Medical Administration from DeVry University.  He was currently enrolled in the Masters of Health Administration Degree Program at Penn State University.

Monroe served as a Corporal in the US Marine Corps.  He then went on to Marine Corp Officer's Candidate School in 2009 and in 2011 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Reserves.   In 2013, he served a tour of duty with 2nd Calvary Reginment  in Afghanistan. For his service in Afgahanistan, he was awarded an Army Cominadation Medal and a Combat Action Badge.

Monroe was a lifetime member of AMVETS.  He was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt & fish.  Monroe was a gifted athlete, and was named to the All Conference and Laural Highland Conference Football Teams during his high school career.  He enjoyed movies and reading, especially books of the military history genre.  He loved sports and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Football fan.

Monroe was a kind and loving son, brother, grandson, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 with Rev. Raymond Short officiating.

Interment will be held at Providence Lutheran Church Cemetery, Centerville.  Graveside military rites will be accorded by the United State Marine Corps.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford.
