William “Billy” Hopkins, 75, passed away November 10, 2019 at Colonial Courtyard, in Bedford, PA.
Bill was born May 12, 1943 in Somerset, PA son of the late William and Mona (Kelley) Hopkins.
He met his first wife, Virginia Wilson Hopkins, their sophomore year at University of Delaware and were married for 25 years.
Billy is survived by his daughter Jennifer Lynch and her husband William of Bear, DE, sister Linda Luddy of White Plains, NY, niece Deirdre Pino and husband, Harry of Brewster, NY and Megan Archer and her husband Brian of Chaska, MN.
He was predeceased by his parents of Hustontown, PA and second wife Olene Clapper Imler in 2008.
He had a stellar, yet short lived football career at the University of Delaware (1962-64) where he holds the record for highest average yards on kickoff returns for a season and for a career. He is also tied for most touchdowns on kickoff returns in a season with two (89 and 95 yards) and was 1st team All-East (1964).
Unfortunately, a MS diagnosis cut his career short.
Bill worked at DuPont (Newport, DE) for over 20 years. He had a quick-witted sense of humor, loved listening to Neil Diamond, watching football and Philadelphia Flyers games.
A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 11:00AM at Duvall Cemetery, Coaldale, PA with Father Fairman-Celebrant.
