Florence M (Diehl) Sams

April 2, 1925 — December 17, 2021

Bedford, formerly of Manns Choice

Florence M. Sams, 96, of Colonial Courtyard, Bedford, formerly of Manns Choice, was welcomed into her eternal home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 1PM.

Born on April 2, 1925, in the white house next to the Methodist church in Buffalo Mills, she was the daughter of Franklin Diehl and Jenny (Clites) Diehl.

Florence was the widow of Walter C. Sams.

She is survived by son- Gary (Patsy) Sams, Everett; son- Darl (Janie) Sams, Bedford and daughter- Sharon Bowers (Sam), Clear Spring, MD; grandchildren: Travis Sams, Amy Sams, Whitney Sams, Courtney Baker, Tricia Fetter, Aaron Sams, Rebekah Irizarry, Bryan Bowers and 16 great grandchildren. Also, a special sister-in-law, Fay Diehl who she loved like a sister.  Florence was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband Walter (December 2, 1986) and the following siblings: Harold, Elwood, Alvie and Adeline Diehl. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a member of the Manns Choice United Methodist Church. She graduated from Schellsburg Napier High School in 1942. On October 26, 1946, in Cumberland, MD, she was united in marriage to Walter Sams to become an Army wife and travel for over 20 years to two foreign countries and three states, living in Germany twice, Turkey, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia before settling back into the hills of PA. Home was never designated by a place, but home was the place where the Sams family happened to live at the time because Florence made it home. She always made sure the family found the local church or Army chapel as a spiritual foundational base. The kitchen was never without something home baked. It could be anything from pies to cakes to cookies. Christmases were always special because she made them so right down to the "Charlie Brown tree". After living the life of Army wife, the family settled in Manns Choice to see the family grow with grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were made to feel that special touch that only she could render.

Flo, as she was sometimes called, enjoyed sewing, playing board games, card games, puzzles, crossword puzzles, cooking, baking and traveling but most of all her family.
