Jean H (Hillegass) Mitchell

Jean H. Mitchell, 94, of New Paris, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Colonial Courtyard, Bedford.

Jean was born in  Napier Twp., Bedford on May 9, 1928, daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy (Bowser) Hillegass.

On July 27 1946, she married her husband Bert Mitchell who preceded her in death on June 2, 2007.

She is survived by daughter- Nancy widow of Bill Simons, of Schellsburg; son- Roger Mitchell, of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter- Gloria wife of Marvin Miller, of New Paris; son- John husband of Jodi (Hoffman) Mitchell, of Bettendorf, IA; granddaughter- Kimberly wife of Russ Nyberg; grandson- Troy Simons; granddaughter- Shelly Sorenson; granddaughter- April wife of Warren Dull; grandson- David Miller; grandson- Joshua Miller; granddaughter- Erin Mitchell; granddaughter- Megan Mitchell; grandson- Shane Mitchell; and six great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandson. Jean was preceded in death along with her husband Bert and parents Carl and Dorothy and by her sisters Pauline Snavely and Helen Imgrund.

Jean was a member of United Methodist Church- New Paris.

She graduated from Schellsburg-Napier High School in 1946 and was the Valedictorian of her class.

Jean was a Girl Scout Leader and the Tax Collector in New Paris Borough.

A visitation will be held Monday, February 6, 2023 from 10-11 AM at Mickle Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 11 AM at Mickle Geisel Funeral Home with Clyde Lasure officiating.

Interment will be at Cuppett Cemetery, New Paris, PA.
