Mary E. (Williams) Bullington

March 21, 1949 — May 20, 2022

Manns Choice

Mary E. Bullington, 73, of Hyndman Road, Manns Choice, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at her home.

Mary was born on March 21, 1949, in Bedford, the daughter of the late James A. and Eva G. (Davis) Williams.

On July 29, 1978, Mary married John M. Bullington. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2004.

Mary is survived by her three sons: Drue M., husband of Elise (Fasnacht) Bullington of Lititz, PA; Lance M., husband of Charity (Beitzel), Grantsville, MD; Benjamin J., husband of Nicki (Weyant) Bullington of Alexandria, VA; 4 grandchildren- Molly, Moira, Malia and John; her sister, Fay E. Williams, New Holland, PA; and two brothers, James B. Williams of Bedford and Roger L. Williams, husband of Cynthia (Williams) of Schellsburg; and sister-in-law, Sylvia (Shippey) Williams of Schellsburg. Along with her parents and husband- John she was preceded in death by her brother Park D. Williams, and sister-in-law Pam (Lafferty) Williams.

She graduated from Chestnut Ridge High School in 1967, attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and main campus in Pittsburgh, graduating in 1971 with a degree in English, minoring in Sociology. Her career was one dedicated to public service. Mary’s work was mostly as a caseworker. First for the PA Dept. of Public Welfare, then for Bedford Lutheran Social Services. When their family moved to Ohio, she was a preventative health educator for the Jefferson Co. Health Department. While living in Pottstown, PA, she tried her hand at Real Estate for a year in 1987, returning pretty quickly to social work as a Caseworker for Children and Youth Services of Montgomery Co. PA. Mary’s commitment and dedication to the people she worked with were always evident. They were formally recognized when she was awarded the Montgomery County Child Welfare Caseworker of the Year in 1991, and the Child Welfare League of American Merit Award in 1991. Mary worked as a Crisis Intervention Caseworker for Bedford MH-MR when her family returned to Bedford Co. in 1996. She joined the team at Bedford Mental Health in 1997 as a crisis intervention caseworker, in time becoming a supervisor of intensive case management. She began her retirement in November of 2012.

She was a member of the United Church of Schellsburg.

Mary was always known to her family and friends as kind, big-hearted, always a shoulder to lean on, and endlessly loving. Raising three sons gave her a special way of looking at life balancing humor with every challenge. Pride and love for her grandchildren were what she lived for in her later years. She was a fiercely independent lady. Her sense of humor was her hallmark. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was dearly loved by many. Her laugh and her hugs will be sorely missed.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home and on Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 10:30-11:00 AM at the United Church of Schellsburg with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM with Pastor James Netrour officiating.
