Maxine Virginia (Lehman) Barrack

Maxine  Virginia (Lehman) Barrack, 89, of Pitt Street, Schellsburg, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home, Bedford.

Mrs. Barrack was born in Elton, Cambria County, PA on September 20, 1931, daughter of the late Royal and Gladys (Green) Lehman.

On September 24, 1949 in Oakland, Maryland Maxine married James A. Barrack. He preceded he in death on November 1, 1995.

She is survived by  Daughter- Nancy wife of  John Murdock, Jeannette, PA; Daughter- Shirley A.  wife of  Denver Deremer, Everett; Grandchildren Chelsea Koontz (Chris Cinefra), Kyle Koontz, Hunter Deremer and John Murdock; Great-grandchildren Piper and Aria  Koontz.  Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, sisters- Donna Branch and Dorothy Bassett, 2 infant brothers and infant sister.

Maxine was a 1949 graduate of Schellsburg Napier High School.

Her career was primarily in the field of Dental Assisting and Dental receptionist. She was trained alongside her older sister while residing in California from 1954 to 1961. She and her husband returned to live in Bedford County a week before Christmas (1961) in a large truck and a completely filled station wagon of their possessions. The trip took 10 days, which necessitated this driver from Southern California to drive cross country in the snow.

Maxine enjoyed crafting and teaching Tole Painting in her home. She loved being with family and friends and would often say that she could talk 10 minutes to a wrong number. She was particularly fond of reciting poetry, singing popular music of her day and was also able to recite the alphabet backwards until the end. She loved dogs but became a lover of cats later in life.

She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having joined the church in Los Angeles and continuing here Bedford. She was the adult Sunday School teacher for approximately 30 years and loved sharing the Gospel.

The family would like to thank the staff at Donahue Manor Care for their devoted care for Maxine while a resident at their facility.

A Private Funeral Service will be held at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg  with Lanford Gates officiating.

Interment at Schellsburg Cemetery.
